Pre-Game Routines: NCAA Basketball

“Everybody is different man ! You have to find a way where you can get mentally prepared before games ! Like for example, first thing I do is pray and clear my mind, listen to some music, stretching then go to the court get as many shot as I can get. I do ball handle, layups and more shoots. You feel me ! Just find a routine and follow that routine day by day man.”

Chris Duarte, University of Oregon, Guard

“We have shoot around, then I usually get up shots up after that. Then I’ll usually meditate as a pre-game ritual [because] it gets me mentally ready for the game.”

Jase Febres, University of Texas, Guard

“Mentally I make sure I’m resting during the day of a game. And I always listen to my music and just talk to my family and friends.”

Jesse Edwards, Syracuse University, Center

“Pre game routine is just to make sure I get a nap in before I come to the Arena”

KJ Feagin, San Diego State University, Guard

“Pregame routine for me is after our shoot around I go home and hang out for a couple hours. Usually I watch some TV and eat a snack. Then go to the arena get taped and shoot around 10-15 mins before our warm up starts.:

Justinian Jessup, Boise State Univeristy, Guard

“I would say that my pregame routine is pretty standard. it’s kinda evolved over the years. when i was early in high school my sister would always make chicken and pasta so that would kinda be my simple pregame routine. i would get shots up pregame but it would typically be at like halftime of the game before us. coming to college things are much more structured. for the most part our game days include a walk-though and then team meal (4 hours before tip off) then i’ll get out on the court 2/2.25 hours before tip  i’ll get taped to go through some light shooting just to get myself going get comfortable in the arena and then get off my feet until we have to come back out for team stretch. I tend to like shooting before everyone gets out on the court so it’s just me and not too cluttered- balls flying. I wouldn’t say my pregame is special but i would say unique. it’s all about feel and whatever makes me feel comfortable and ready for the game might be different for you

Robbie Beran, Northwestern University, Forward

“Before every pre game meeting I sit and meditate think about everything I need to do to help the team.”

Kameron Mcgusty, University of Miami, Guard

“Pregame routine is to do some breathing relaxing exercises. I will also meditate and relax the nervous system. Like to listen to music and text the ppl I care for before”

Marcus Zegarowski, Creighton University, Guard

“I pray before every game. Once before the pregame workouts, and once during the national anthem.”

Caleb Mills, University of Houston, Guard

“One thing I do before games on the road is I always take a nap, and on the way to the game I listen to pop. It just puts me at ease, and helps relax me before getting out and playing”

Justin Bean, Utah State University, Forward

“My pregame routine usually, [as] a college student, is wake up go to class come home nap and then go to the game and warmup…That’s true but for me I like to eat a good breakfast and then we go to shoot around 6 hours before the game. Then I like to go and get lunch with my girl friend it just gives me luck and keeps me calm before going to war. Then I get to the game 2 hours before, use the massage gun and then do a quick 15 minute pre pre game warm up with one of the coaches, and then we get into our team warm up. Before the game I like a pray and thank god for allowing me to be where I am and then I get on with the game.”

Dan Fotu, Saint Mary’s College of California, Forward

“Before games I have a pretty set routine which is similar for most of my teammates. We have a pre game meal 4 hrs before tip-off and have to be in the gym 1.5 hrs before the game starts. In between I like to take a nap and then listen to some music. Then before we start team warm up I like to shoot a little bit on my own.”

Oscar Da Silva, Stanford University, Forward

“I always listen to lil wayne before every game and I have a wristband that says “god loves you, always has, always will” that i never take off so during games i put it in my sock.”

Michael Benkert, Belmont University, Guard
